History
2006 - Hay Hill CC as we know it began in the summer of 2006 when the would-be cricketers of Hay Hill Baptist Church started to get together for outdoor nets at Bath Cricket Club on Saturday mornings. At that stage, there were not enough players to make a team, and we suspected that if we did scrape together some extras we'd be beaten by any opposition!
2007 - The following summer, it was very disappointing that the Bath CC nets were not made available to us, but Lansdown CC stepped in and offered us the use of their outdoor nets and outfield on Saturday mornings. We moved on to playing some games against other churches, most notably in the Bath Churches Festival 2007, in which a combined St Bart's - Hay Hill side won the trophy!
2008 - After several good players had come and gone, and the squad size was barely enough to play our few matches, 2008 saw Hay Hill CC establish a strong, committed squad with a great deal of potential. The season started with a couple of games against Molesley Community Church (MCC) which we won, and in the process met a couple of Zimbabweans who have become important team members. The season was successful and fun, and the team spirit was brilliant. We had properly arrived. Matches against Bath Venturers at the end of the season signalled an intent to go beyond playing the other churches of Bath.
2009 - With a good group of people established, club captain Mark started to take some steps to move the club forwards and disperse responsibility. A small committee was appointed, with Rev Rob Trickey as Chairman, and Dan Williams as Vice Captain. Larry Garratt became the treasurer, and Ian Sparrowhawk was entrusted with coordinating training. Mark approached his employers for sponsorship, and this led to Hay Hill's first team kit, emblazoned with the Purple Secure Systems logo. The club played in the inaugural National Christian Cricket Festival and recorded some impressive wins, including a four game winning streak.
2010 - With the benefit of pre-season coaching, Hay Hill's strong looking squad are ready for their busiest summer yet. Included in the fixture list are two longer games at weekends against visiting teams... it should be great!
Where next?
Who knows... but Mark would like the club to go from strength to strength, whilst continuing to fulfil its vision by providing opportunities for people who would otherwise not get the chance to play cricket.
