End of Season

3rd Sep 2010

The highly successful 2010 season comes to a close as Hay Hill beat Novia by seven wickets at the Sulis Club, though sadly without captain Mark, who is at home ill texting team mates!

Bowling first, Hay Hill bowlers Walton, Williams and Evans wiped out every batsman other than the number 1 and number 10 as they restricted Novia to 106/8 off 16 overs. A reasonable total, but Walton and Williams struck five sixes between them, and Matt Robinson stepped up at the end to finish it with a four as Hay Hill recorded yet another win in a tremendous season.

As soon as Mark is back is on his feet, the Annual Awards Dinner shall be arranged. Stay tuned!

Another Excellent Win

24th Aug 2010

Hay Hill lost the toss and found themselves batting on a very interesting wicket, but some brilliant batting from the top five set up a big win.

The very heavy rain overnight before the game meant that even playing last night was an achievement, and the ground was very green and spongy. Having to bat first on it was a challenge, but Williams (67) was outstanding, and well supported by Dylan Mathias (32) and Jon Solly (22), as we posted 135/3 - a great effort.

The bowling from Walton and Williams stifled the run chase early, and the 39ers just failed to get to 100 in the end. Well played everyone.

So, is the game on?

23rd Aug 2010

Another heavy shower in Bath at 13:30... but assume the game is ON unless you hear otherwise.

The forecast for the rest of the day in Bradford is very good...

Team for Tonight

23rd Aug 2010

After last night's deluge, let's hope the sun comes out and dries everything up for tonight.

THE TEAM: Williams, Shearman (*), Curran, Garratt, Robinson, Solly, Walton, Evans, Barnes, Sparrowhawk (+), Mathias

It's looking sunny right now... long may it continue!

Rain Ruins Good Contest

19th Aug 2010

We were in a strong position having reduced Venturers to 74 for 5 when the rain came last night.

Having won the toss and chosen to field first we did a very good job, with Mark, Dan and Martyn taking the wickets. A memorable moment came when Dan Williams took an astounding catch at slip, parrying it up with his right hand before diving back and catching it inches from the ground with his left.

Sadly, the Venturers could not complete their innings and Hay Hill could not do any batting as very heavy rain washed out the contest.

Back to Full Strength

17th Aug 2010

We have a strong eleven players for tomorrow night's match against the Venturers. Let's hope for some good weather.

THE TEAM: Shearman, Williams, Sparrowhawk, Robinson, Andrews, Trickey, Alford, Walton, Barnes, Garratt, Evans

Narrow Loss Ends Winning Streak

13th Aug 2010

After seven consecutive wins, Hay Hill bowed to the inevitable as Southstoke won from the first ball of the final over.

Playing two overs per bowler, there was some interesting bowling from both sides, and a slow, low, tricky wicket to bat on. A total of 118 looked a bit light from Hay Hill, despite good knocks of 28 and retirement from Trickey, Walton and Alford. A special champagne moment occurred when Larry finally got his first bat, and he was undefeated with one to his name!

We kept our bowling tight and picked up wickets frequently, including a first ever wicket from Matt Alford in bizarre circumstances. However, Southstoke got home by 3 wickets in the end as Geoff White smashed a Shearman full toss down the ground with two required from the last over of the game.

Back Down to Earth

11th Aug 2010

After the highs of Saturday, it's something of a low today as we can only muster seven players to play Southstoke, and have to go cap in hand. Thankfully, Richie is a generous man and he's arranging for extra players for us so a match can go ahead.

THE... PLAYERS: Williams, Shearman, Barnes, Walton, Robinson, Alford, Garratt

Tonight is a chance to enjoy and express ourselves without worrying too much about the result!

Winners!

9th Aug 2010

Despite a worrying downpour in the morning, the Family Fun Day went ahead and was enjoyed by a good crowd. Well done to all.

The visitors started badly after winning the toss and choosing to bat, and did not recover as Hay Hill's excellent bowling and fielding dismissed the Taverners for just 62. An emphatic win was wrapped up by seven wickets.

A huge thank you to Gemma who organised so much, to Purple for their generous sponsorship, and to Bath Ales for their help with our boundary bar. We hope this event will be the first of many.

Weather Looking ... OK
